Part 2 Member list privacy You’re right here as well. The member list of a Private group is visible only to members. Public group member lists are visible to everyone, while Secret group membership is also restricted to members. So the privacy behavior you noticed is intentional. Mute for groups The purpose of Mute is to remove that group’s posts from your feeds and silence its group notifications without changing your membership or your ability to open the group. If you’re seeing the feature behave differently between web and mobile, though, that difference is useful for us to know. The behavior should be consistent, so we’ll flag that observation as well. The group bell Yes, the bell is specifically for new-post notifications from that group. It is opt-in for members, and it doesn’t affect who can see the posts themselves. Mute and the bell control what reaches you, they do not change the privacy of the group or its content. Blocking someone who owns/admins a group This is probably the most interesting edge case you raised. Blocking does not cancel group membership: two users who have blocked each other can still belong to the same group. What blocking does is hide their posts from each other and prevent the usual notifications between them. Your broader concern is therefore valid: if an admin and a member cannot see each other’s ordinary content because of a block, that can make some moderation situations awkward. This is a genuinely useful scenario for us to consider as Groups evolve. Searching groups by description, not only by name You’re absolutely right about the current behavior. Group search currently matches the group’s name, not words in its description. Your “Stitch Corner” / “crochet” example explains perfectly why searching descriptions would become increasingly useful as the number of groups grows. We’ll note this one as a discovery/search improvement. Only seeing the latest 10 posts The intended Groups behavior is to show group posts newest first, with a pinned post shown separately at the top. There isn’t a documented “only 10 posts” product rule. So if you and @donkerbot are consistently hitting a hard limit of 10 posts, that’s something we need to look into rather than explain away as an intentional restriction. Thanks for pointing it out. And your tagging issue on web Also noted. If the mention selector makes it difficult to tell which user you’re choosing, that’s a separate web UI issue worth improving. Overall, a lot of what you tested is behaving exactly as intended, and you’ve also surfaced several really useful usability and edge-case observations. Thank you for putting Groups through such a thorough real-world test, this kind of feedback is genuinely valuable to us. 💙🤗

Part 1 Thank you for taking the time to go this deep into Groups, @Ioana MS! 😊💙 I’ll give the responses here, as they may help others as well. Also, not enough characters, so I’ll split this into two posts. 🤦‍♀️😅 Public, Private and Secret groups You’ve understood the privacy model correctly. Public groups can be found by anyone, joined instantly, and their posts behave like regular public posts across feeds, profiles and links. Private groups can still be found, but only members can see their posts, comments and reactions, and joining requires admin approval. Secret groups are private groups that are also hidden from search and the Groups directory, so outsiders cannot discover them at all. And yes, if you can see activity from a Private or Secret group on someone’s profile or in your feed, that means you also have permission to see that content, usually because you’re a member of the same group. Private group content does not become public simply because it appears in a member’s feed or activity. 😊 Fact-checking in groups Correct again. Group posts go through the same moderation process as other eYou posts, and fact-checking applies where relevant. So what you’ve observed there is working as intended. Posting from a group on the web You’ve identified an important UX point here. A post that belongs to a group needs to be created from the group page through the “Share something with the group…” composer. The large general “New Post” button can therefore be misleading when you’re already looking at a group page and naturally assume you’re about to post there. Making the group composer more visible or otherwise making the destination clearer is very useful feedback, and we’ll note it for improvements. Copy-pasting screenshots/images on the web This isn’t something specific to Groups, but your point makes perfect sense from a web usability perspective. Having to save a snip as a file before uploading it adds an unnecessary extra step. We’ll pass that one along as web UX feedback too. Seeing group rules before joining a Private group This is a very good point. At the moment, a non-member can see the Private group’s basic information, including its name and description, but there isn’t a dedicated “Group Rules” field shown before joining. Some admins use the description for rules, while others put them in a pinned post, but of course a pinned post inside a Private group cannot help someone decide whether to join because they can’t read the group’s posts yet. So a dedicated, clearly visible rules section before requesting membership would remove exactly the extra step you described. Very useful suggestion. 👍

But today, my wife Ioana and I are announcing a very different kind of launch. Child #4 has arrived! At 46, let’s just say this is a pretty ambitious expansion plan. Public. Anyone can find it, read it, join it in a tap. Private. People see the name and ask to come in. An admin decides. Secret. Not in search. Not in Discover. Go to its address and eYou tells you there is nothing there. It doesn't refuse you, because a refusal would tell you it exists. A secret group doesn't say no to strangers. It says nothing at all. And whichever you choose, it stays. Nobody joins a private room and finds it opened later. Not by an admin. Not by us. Inside. Post straight into a group. Every post carries its chip, so you always know where a conversation lives. Admins pin one post to the top. What matters is what you see first.
